What To Add To Your Fall Winter Capsule Wardrobe

Can I just say that my favorite time of year to start adding Fall and Winter items to my wardrobe is when we get close to the end of summer?! Each year, I love to grab my Autumn wardrobe staple pieces during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. Today I’m sharing my top favorite items for Fall and Winter for a few categories and some of the must have essentials to add to your capsule wardrobe ASAP!

If you want to create a capsule wardrobe, you’ll need to find a few versatile, yet high quality pieces that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of different outfits.

Before you shop, make sure to declutter and clear out your current wardrobe of items you no longer wear, too trendy, or don’t fit as well.

Remember, these are only just some of my favorites! Obviously you can always add to this, and I know there are so many other essentials. Again, just some of my personal favorite items I personally own.

Fall Winter Capsule Wardrobe Sweater

Let’s start with looking for sweaters that are both chunky, oversized and find thinner ones as well.

I love these sweaters specifically because I am someone who continually wears an oversized sweater with leggings all Fall and Winter long. But I do love wearing the thinner sweaters with sweatpants or jeans!

Every Autumn, I love to buy new Free People sweaters at a deep discount. Typically, they don’t go on sale again until the season changes, so I like to stock up. The Swim Too Deep Turtleneck has been in a few years in a row since 2021, and I’ve gotten it in 3 colors, I love it so much. It’s so oversized and cozy. I recommend sizing down 1-2. I’m wearing Small.

Fall and Winter Cardigan Essential

The Barefoot Dreams cardigans run true to size. These have to be my most worn, and favorite cardigans I’ve ever owned. They’re high quality and super soft, and have lasted me 5 years now! Warm enough for the winter with thin material, but the perfect amount of cozy for summer nights. I wear this all year round!

Autumn Winter Capsule Wardrobe Tees

Everyone needs a good basic in their closet, and for me my go-to fall and winter layering basic are long sleeve turtleneck bodysuits. They keep me warm, they’re comfortable and can be layered with so many items! An absolute must have in all neutral tones!

Autumn Capsule Wardrobe Denim

Over the years I have fallen in love with Madewell denim! I love them especially because they hide your stomach pouch so well. Their 90’s Straight Denim is my favorite. I also love that their denim runs large, so I always feel smaller when shopping for my size. I size down 2 sizes in this Madewell denim.

Autumn and Winter Boots

Boots that have been in my wardrobe for years and years have been Chelsea boots, and white booties. I find that the styles and fashion do not tend to change on these, vs regular brown booties and knee/thigh high which seem to come out every single year with something new about them or different shaft heights. So here are a few of my favorites.

Chelsea Boots

Here I’m also wearing my favorite leggings which you’ll see below, and the Chelsea boots shoes! Totally go-tos.

White Booties

Favorite Fall and Winter Capsule Wardrobe Leggings

In my opinion, these Amazon faux leather leggings are 1000% worth it! The compression is amazing so they suck everything in. I love that they have no crotch seam either for camel toe. Lastly, the sheen is just gorgeous. Doesn’t look plastic-y like I’ve seen other leather leggings look.

Capsule Wardrobe Necklace

My go to necklace that I wear non-stop is a custom letter necklace with gold and crystal letters! These types of necklaces have been around for years, and I truly just think they are a great classic and perfect for layering! I think splurging a bit is worth it so you don’t end up getting a cheap, lightweight, tarnished version.

Capsule Wardrobe Handbag

I definitely have bags that are more “fall oriented”, but there’s nothing like that one go-to bag in your closet you always reach and grab for. For me, that’s the YSL Mini Lou Camera Bag. It’s small. Lightweight. Matches literally everything. And is such high quality! It’s just a small camera bag/wallet chain, so I can just stuff whatever I want in there and put my cards in the slots.

I’m aware this may be out of budget for some, so I’m sharing a second best alternative I love for a much more affordable price point! The Tory Burch Kira Camera Bag! Same vibes, same high quality style at a much lower price point.

Also, notice how I’m wearing those white boots again?! LOVE!
